CodeBox App Reviews

Awesome tool!

I really love CodeBox, this tool is really simple to use and more important really useful. What I also like is the support of the developer, he answered my mail within hours and this is terrific!

Outdated Version

Cool app, but no more updates since many years and no support for the new Swift Language

Great idea!

I always have to open up old projects to figure out what I did. Now, I just have to store those snippets in CodeBox. Finally a great app that I will user over and over.

All it needs is Dropbox support!

Awesome app! First purchase I made in the App Store and its been an amazing help. I only have two requests: 1. DropBox support 2. The option to run it as a process in the menu bar. I dont need the app open all the time. Those two features, in my opinion, would make this the perfect app. Still, at version 1.0, Vadim is off to a great start!

Excellent start

Very useful app. Suggested features: - Dropbox support (or some other network drive support such as iDisk). This will enable sync of snippets between multiple macs (home, work, etc.) - Possibility to add more info to each snippet such as image (screenshot or mockup) or notes that can reference line numbers. - Code files to have extension visible in the list in case the whole file is captured.

Good app

Very useful to me. It keeps all of my snippets handy and the new menu bar item is very practical. The possibility to have many different "assets" is also very handy.

Disappointed - menu bar not working

I like the snippet handling features of the application but as a Developer the most important thing that attracted me to this application is quick and easy access to snippets via the menubar. This functionality is not working for me in version 1.1, which is quite disappointing. After downloading I did the following: 1) Created a new Library and saved as CodeBox (2) Created a new folder called Web Development (3) Created a new group called CSS and placed it in the Web Development Folder. (4) Saved CodeBox (5) Closed CodeBox (Application) (6) Went to the menu bar to see if any of the references were present and the only option Im seeing are: (a) New Library (b) Open Preferences (c) Quit CodeBar

Bad Change

I dont know what the hell the developers are thinking when they made the changes; They took something really nice and simple, and decided to make it more complicated than it needed to be. Nothing works the way it should in the newest version, all of my code I put in the last version doesnt show any of the text in the snippets; I have to change all the extensions to .txt to view them. Even the codebar is messed up, it doesnt even show anything in the search results. Just why?

Why?

I agree, this is the worse update to a product, ever. It worked great before.....now it is confusing and not at all usefull. I would like to ask for my money back. but. Cest la vie... :-(

Solid changes

I am not sure about the complaints, but I personally like the changes. The old program was faster but the newer version is much more flexible. I can keep multiple libraries of code which is great. I have one for work projects and one for my hobbie projects. Both are very different and really dont belong together in one library. I also like having the option of multiple assets associated with a single snippet. More complex, yes, but it is a great way to store versions of a snippet or example scripts of of how to use it. My only complaint is that inserting a snippet from the menu bar takes two extra key stroke, however now I have options like copy which rather than simply inserting at the cursor. When working inside a vitual machine this works better that the old implementation which simply didnt show up (shocking!) Overall solid functionality additions.

Pretty Brutal App

Bought it figuring it would work well. But you need to do a File -> Open to open my Snippets file everytime I open the app. This isnt an Office program, just open my last used file automatically. Poor design, waste of money, I highly suggest you look somewhere else.

Now that Ive fixed the issue, this is very good

I initially gave this a bad review because 1.1.1 broke the menu bar feature and 1.2 still didnt fix it. It turned out to be an ACL permissions problem (Apples problem) and the developer has a fix on the site. Otherwise, I really like this.

Perfect for any programming

Very good app that just works ! Helps me a lot to code and not constantly look for code I know I wrote somewhere before but dont remember in which project it was.

Bogs down in the parse, not clear on organizaton

Tried this one out for a bit. The system would hang and bog down the whole mess trying to colour files, be they Objective-C or pure C. This is sample code from the BSD project and from Apple itself that I was trying to collect to get a feel for it. Has potential, and it works ok other than the poor performance speed in my experience, but after trying CCP, Im going to go that way for now.

Fantastic application for storing, viewing and organizing code!

This application has solid features and is great to store code, with lots of neat features such as code colouring and the CodeBar. Highly recommend this to anyone who wants to store their reusable code in a efficient and easily expandably way.

Recent Update makes it less great

While Ive loved this app for a while the most recent update certainly set it back. Where before you could just use the code bar to auto paste snippets youve now got to type the keyword then hit the arrow keys to pick what you want to do with the snippet. Saves me way less time now and means Im going to have to look for another solution again. I can certainly understand that users may want to do more than one thing with a snippet but at least have it set to auto paste and use a modifier like tab to access other action. The utility of an app for code snippets is that its fast when you have stuff you repeat regularly. Adding extra steps to get to what you need just seems like a bad idea.

Where you been before?

Easy and fast to use!!! Great app!

Still needs some work

I attempted to use this product instead of another well-known snippet manager. After spending the time organizing and importing all my snippets the app would not launch, and would hang resulting in a need to force quit. To be used in an environment that needs to have snippets and no chance of loss, then I think this app has some maturing to do.

Best snippet app available

Tried a few snippet apps. This one is the best to use, with the best price.

CodeBar

I use a MBP with an external monitor, and so often CodeBar is stuck in a non visible area of the screen. The only way to get codebar back is to restart it!! Please fix, I use this for all of my snippets :)
