CodeBox App Reviews

Quickly made itself indispensable.

For a long time, I knew I wanted some sort of a tool that would provide easy access to my commonly used snippets of code. CodeBox provides that, and does it seamlessly. This app has virtually no learning curve, and quickly became an integral part of my workflow. Love it!

Great app but color coding is way off.

This is a great app, but the color coding is way off. It would be nice if it was proper.

Great - especially with Dropbox...

Great app. Keep it up.

Just what you need for all your development

It does it all. Hight light code, nested folders. Use in any coding language you use. Undo, drag n drop your snippets and tag that sort and help find snippets on any tag you want. Just what I was looking for to keep everthing in one place. Well worth the $9. in time savings.

It would be nice if it was updated

Awaiting for bug fixes two years later??

Very useful!

Does its job well. Great for organizing all those reuseable code snippets. Also great for making explanatory notes to accompany the code snippets. Adding tags makes it possible to categorize things the way you think and remember things. App could use some ability to increase font size, but overall it is well done and extremely useful.

macOS Problems?

Upgraded to macOS Sieria and CodeBox lost most snippits. Saving suddently uses “unknown” library name and other problems. I guess this means it’s the end of the line for this very useful utility. Sad… …UPDATE! Great news… macOS Sieria 10.12.1 (16B2555) update fixes all of the earlier release problems. So pleased to have my old friend back in the house again!!

If you code, you need

Coding is my living and this app has been a lifesaver for me over the last 4 years of faultless use. You need this app.

Lack of iCloud support.

It will be perfect with iCloud support.

Perfect

Very useful app.

A bitty buggy, but quite useful

Themes are sooooo slow on latest rMBP with 8 GB of RAM na 2 GHz i7… syntax highlighting very often is not applied to the whole source file - even to ~200 LOC files! The developer also doesn’t seem to care about this app anymore - last update 2 years ago?

Cool

It is a good application! I like the idea of folders, goups and smart groups. I hope that it will be possible, somehow, to share my snippets betweens all my machines or export the whole snippets file.

Good Application

For developer is very useful. best code snippet application.

DON’T BUY IT! — expand code using abbreviations is NOT WORKING since OSX 10.9.2

The app interface is nice, but one of the most important feature, expand code using abbreviations is NOT WORKING on my Mac. The developer told me to add (via drag and drop) the file launchproxyls located in /usr/libexec/ to the to the list in System Preferences → Privacy & Security → Privacy → Accessibility but I cannot do it since the drag and drop seem to only accept *.app files. !!! Check If you can add the bin file to the list BEFORE buying this app…..or STAY AWAY FROM IT and use alternatives like aText until this serious bug is fixed

Nice app but too buggy to use {ABANDONWARE]

There are things I love about this app but its too buggy to use. While bugs are annoying, Codebox has a system crippling memory leak when the filter is used. If you use use the filter to search be prepared to quit quickly or pray that your coding work is saved. Worse its ABANDONWARE since the developer hasnt responded to bug reports or even updated since 2012. I STRONGLY recommend not rewarding this developer by buying this app. Im beginning to wish I hadnt.

A good start but needs a lot more work.

Text-only note taking — no images — is my biggest problem with this. I’d really like to be able to take a screen grap, save it to a file and then import it into this app, but no. I don’t even need them to be embedded in the text. There are already tabs for multiple files for a given topic. File support for graphics is solidly built into Cocoa. So why not this feature is mystery to me. Contacted the developer but this seems to be beyond his ability. If you are ok with text only, then this is an ok app.

Great app, but extremely buggy

Update: Abandonded. This app hasn’t been updated since 2012! Do not buy it! I really like this app, but it has a number of bugs that interrupt workflow and make it frustrating to use at times. In the latest version, snippets are expanded without me hitting tab, so I keep getting unwanted expansions as I type. Also, I cant just click on tabs without highlighting all of them. You have to click right on the edge of the tab to select. Im also unable to search all my snippets in the snippet column, if the tag list is showing in the far left column. I have to first change to the folder view, select all snippets again and then conduct a search. Finally, everytime I launch the app, it forgets my menubar setting. Every time I have to open prefernces to turn it back on. Lots of potential in this app, but some of the bugs have got to be worked out.

I have been waiting for someone to make this.

i have been using code collector pro and at first it was good then i started to notice there were no updates and it didnt have what i needed. To bad i didnt know about this program when it first came out but its good that i know of it now. Thank you for creating this. The price is very affordable as well. This will be the code collector pro killer.

Love it!! 1 request though.

I love the app and I use it almost every day. This is the best one I have found for storing code snippets! I do have 1 request though and that is Lua syntax highlighting. I am not taking off a star because this is a GREAT app, and because Xcode does not even have Lua syntax highlighting. I am still learning Lua now so the highlighting would help a lot!

eh

The title says it- eh. The app has a great UI, and has a ton of useful features, but the development just isnt there currently. Hopefully it will get better with future versions. There are bugs with syncing between the CodeBox window and the CodeBar in the menu bar, so if you are editing code in your snippet right before you want to use it, you cant use the menu bar before closing it and reloading the library. That alone is a huge negative and is the main reason why I wont use this software until it is improved. I also had issues with the program freezing up and the menu bar widget just making the error sound every time I clicked on something. Only remedy was force quit CodeBox. Its a shame, I have been searching for something rivaling Codas code clips that can span across multiple programs. I guess I have to wait until v1.5...
