CodeBox App Reviews

Why did I wait!?!

I was on the fence for a while and now I can kick myself. This application is great. If you are on the fence, buy it! If you arent sure if you need it, you do. Not convinced? Go watch his video. The app is worth the price just for the TextExpander feature alone. Very flexiable, very well thought out, very worth the price.

Awesome code manager

I didnt even know I needed this, now I dont know what Id do without it. Edit: I took away a star because I dont like the new version. I cant seem to figure out simple things, like adding code as objective-c code. In the last version this was easy to do. Not so much anymore. Edit2: They fixed it, adding star back in.

Pretty, But a Chore To Use

If youre looking for something to simply store your snippets, create a new text document and paste them in there. This doesnt get the job done for me as a modern code snippet app. Its handling of Libraries (why are these needed?) is clumsy and unnecessary, and the lack of any real tagging (being able to type in a tag; not what it considers tags) makes this fairly unintuitive to use. Wouldnt recommend at this point.

An excellent snippet manager

I wish there were one app like this that met all my requirements: 1) clean and easy to use hierarchical organization; 2) cloud storage so that I know I can access snippets from any computer/device; 3) ability to add text shortcuts that I can type anywhere to retrieve commonly used snippets; 4) the ability to embed placeholders to fill in at embed time; 5) easy access to the full snippit library from the Menu bar; 6) effortless syncing between my home and work computers. So far I havent, so I still use Evernote and TextExpander also. But CodeBox has replaced Snippets as the third piece, and I find myself using it the most of the three. It doesnt really offer any functionality I didnt have in Snippets, but I like the dropdown from the Menu bar much better and….a BIG and…it syncs across my home and work computers via Dropbox effortlessly and flawlessly, something both Snippets and TextExpander claim to do, but in my experience do not. This is very nicely designed and solid app.

Just what I needed.

A beautifully designed product that has made the world of difference in the way I orginize my code. Id love to see the utilization of fullscreen mode in later versions of CodeBox. :]

Good

Only one recommendation right now…would love to be able to search content of snippets.

Store all of your snippets in one place

I use CodeBox to store a variety of code snippets, in addition I moved all my txt files and stickies to CodeBox so everything is now in one location neatly orgnazied and easy to find. Developer addresses updates quickly and is actively answering questions from users (me). If youre looking for an app to store all of your code snippets, and random text this is it… and if you have more than one machine and use DropBox, this is fully compatible with it and I had no problems with sharing my libraries with other users of CodeBox.

Marvelous little app :)

Finally a proper resting place for my snippets. The snippet manager in dreamweaver just doesnt cut it; now Im finally cut loose from it. Thanks for this great app :)

Terrible… all saved snippets dissapeard without warning or changes

The entire purpose of this App completely failed! This App is supposed to archive/organize snippets such that you can search/retrive at a later date. However, after entering a bunch of snippets, tagging and orgazing them into folders, they completely vanished upon the 3rd opening of this App. Thus, this App is compeltely useless. I would not rely on this App to store your snippets… they may completely vanish without a trace one day. For those of you who do use this App… a word of caution: back up such snippets in another location. Very dissapointing to say the least.

Little benefit over Evernote

I cant seem to copy snippets between libraries. I was using it to store sequences of bash scripts for various server installs, grouping the scripts in libraries. I guess I could just not use seperate libraries, but I think Im going back to evernote, considering many of my snippets originate from the web anyway.

Wish I found it sooner

This app is excellent. I was always looking for Gnuplot, LaTeX, bash, and Python snippets everywhere on my machine until I found CodeBox. Its a simple concept, but a very useful one that is exceuted flawlessly in my experience. A must buy for a developer or analyst that finds themselves constantly reusing functions and snippets.

Some functions doesnt work as I expected.

"Paste into Finder" - Should be saving the current snippet file into the current folder of Finder. Please add "Share to Gist".

No Support for ASM - Assembly Source

Ive emailed asking for support for Asssembly (ASM) files - I have this collection of assembly source -and cant include it in the box. Otherwise I dont have any complaints ... just getting acquainted and Im considerably optimistic that it will do everything else I want!

I highly recommmend it!

If CodeBox had the hability to share and get my snippets using social code-sharing services like GitHub & Snipplr, I would have given it a 5 star. Other than that, its a fantastic app!!! I highly recommmend it!

i cant update

my macbook is 32-bit processor.

Does what it claims - well

Im a front-end web developer and use this application daily. Its saved me tons of time in terms of keeping useful snippets saved in once place, and easily findable. The sync feature works great, so I have the same snippet library on my work machine and personal machine. I particularly like how one snippet can have multiple assets - which helps when you have say, a particular snippet of javascript, but want to remember the HTML its designed to work with. If you are in the kind of position where reusing pieces of code could save you time, check this app out.

Best snippet app!

This has become my preferred snippet app, and the fact that it syncs with Dropbox is wonderful. Im feeding it more day by day... I only wish there were an iOS client so I can discuss code with other people while on the go. (But thats nothing to do with how awesome this app is by itself though.) 5-star for sure. =)

Everything about this app is amazing.

This app is a must-have for every single developer. No exceptions. Only feature I can request is full-screen support for Lion! UPDATE: Full Lion support is amazing. I cant say enough nice stuff about this thing. Super useful. I use it every day.

Wonderful Snippet storage tool.

This developer is very attentive. This app is a steal! It now supports TextExpander-esque completions, variables, GitHub snippet sharing, etc… Its really a beauty to behold. A wonderful tool for any developer.

Oh wow it has Go language syntax support

I love you CodeBox. You store my Go Appengine Datastore code snippets like no other box ever could.
